Brushes, Buddies, and Beyond for Autism

The Autism Society of Greater New Orleans is pleased to announce two locations for our Brushes, Buddies, and Beyond for Autism program, i.e., Chalmette and Metairie! Our Chalmette sessions, in collaboration with JBJ Creations, are held at Covenant United Methodist Church, 115 East D’Amour St. The Metairie sessions are in collaboration with and held at the East Jefferson YMCA, 6691 Riverside Drive.

Brushes, Buddies, and Beyond for Autism offers participants the opportunity to learn how to paint in a fun and relaxed environment and to explore and learn more about painting from an instructional artist among friends and with a buddy. Buddies are trained volunteers who have a passion for serving and teaching individuals with special needs. Participants get to create their own unique paintings that can be used for keepsakes, gifting, or that can be auctioned off at the culmination of classes during the program art gallery showing.

Brushes, Buddies and Beyond for Autism intends to close the gap for recreational activities for individuals with autism by providing the opportunity to express themselves and engage with others. Other benefits include but are not limited to:

•    Improving the capacity for learning
•    Increasing self-expression through art
•    Building sensory integration skills
•    Builds self-esteem
